YORK City youngsters Andy Bishop and David Stockdale have earned call-ups to the England National Game XI squad.

Bishop and Stockdale have been named in the 30-man Under-23 non-League preliminary squad for next month's away fixture against an Italian Serie 'C' select side, along with Scarborough pair Scott Kerr and Chris Senior.

The squad will be whittled down to 16 before the match at FC Ivrea on Wednesday, November 10 but Bishop and Stockdale will both be given an opportunity to impress National Game manager Paul Fairclough when they travel to Barnet with the Minstermen next Saturday.

Fairclough is also in charge of the Bees and impressive displays should book the City players' place on the plane bound for Italy.

Bishop has scored three times in his last four Conference matches and Stockdale has impressed in goal during ten games since breaking into the first team.

If selected, the players would fly out on Monday, November 8 and return on Thursday, November 11 during a week in which City have no scheduled midweek fixture.

Bishop will be looking to continue the goalscoring streak when City take on Canvey Island in the Conference at Bootham Crescent tomorrow (3pm).

City player-boss Chris Brass said: "He's set himself a target of 20 for the season and I would like to think he can get there.

"He was as frustrated as anybody early on but three in four is a good statistic and if he can carry on at that rate other teams will begin to worry about him."
