IN-FORM centre Colin Barker ran in four tries during a blistering 20-minute period as Selby Warriors beat West Bowling 'B' to move four points clear at the top of Pennine League division five.

The Warriors put in a lacklustre display but still won 32-2, making promotion look increasingly probable.

They owed much to Barker's first-half blast, bulldozing his way through half the Bradford team like a raging bull, twice going in from 50 yards.

Cold hands in an icy wind was one excuse for the bad handling that ruined the game, and the tiny pitch did not suit Selby's style, but they nevertheless went ahead after ten minutes when the Bowling full-back fumbled a high kick leaving Barker to pick up and score.

West Bowling responded with their solitary goal but then Barker crossed for quick-fire tries. He firstly forced the ball down from close range, then, from Chris O'Neill's break down the wing from the restart, he took the inside pass and exploded into life.

Five minutes later, the recently married Barker was charging down the pitch again to score his tenth try in three games - leaving the Selby faithful wondering what his missus puts in his sarnies these days.

Wayne Fennell scored the fifth try on half-time after good work from Ian Ramskill and Selby were coasting.

In fairness to West Bowling, they tackled well and, when Selby were reduced to 12 men after John Broadhurst was sent off early in the second half, the two sides cancelled each other out.

Carl Bardauskas scored the only try of the second half with ten minutes left, Fennell adding his fourth goal.

Leaders York Acorn 'A' were given a walkover in division four.
