I WRITE about the public footpath through St Peter's School in York. I am amazed at some of the comments of your correspondents, and elected councillors, who have chosen to ignore the facts.

After the Dunblane School massacre an inquiry was held by the Government into the safety of schools. One of the findings was that public paths running through school grounds, or premises, are no longer desirable and should be removed where possible.

It is a sad indictment of those in authority, particularly City of York Council and local councillors, that action has not been taken to deal with this issue of safety and security. Just a few yards away there is an alternative route to the public open space and riverside via The Avenue and the end of Westminster Road.
