YORK Railway Institute Ladies scored the two wins in division one of the York Badminton League.

Ros Ellis and Joyce Petch took 90-15 in their team's 9-0 home win over University Staff Club, while in their 5-3 away win over University Students, Ellis, partnered by Nicky Milsted, took another maximum.

Selby Drax Ladies travelled to Nestl with only two pairings and still managed to take all the rubbers for a 6-3 win. Gayle Bradley and Alison Dinsdale were in great form for the visitors recording three wins for a total of 90-23.

In ladies division two, Market Weighton were good value for a 6-3 win at Pocklington. Linda McDonagh and Miriam Beales were the pick of the Weighton pairings with three straight wins.

The University Students Men's 'A' team suffered two 3-6 defeats. They went down at home to resurgent Riverside, and then lost out to York RI at the campus sports centre. Manik Chakravarti and Chris Woodroffe took all three student wins in the Riverside match. Up against York RI, Chakravarti, partnered by E Clark, repeated the feat.

Mixed division one leaders University Students 'A' kept up the pressure at the top with a 9-0 demolition of their 'B' team. Chris Hunt and Heather Turner returned 92-54 in straight sets for the 'A' team.

Railway Institute Tuesday/Thursday 'A' played host to Huntington 'B' in mixed division three and scored a 7-2 win. Lisa Turner and Clive Debenham took both Huntington wins in a good display. However, they lost out 9 and 11 to Matt Hitchens and Penny Sheard, who went on to return 90-47 from three straight wins.

Selby Jubilee 'B' kept up their good form in mixed four with a 7-2 away win over University Students 'C'. Simon Benson and Lynn Redman had to work hard to take their allocation after going to a deciding end in all three rubbers. Benson and Redman finally came through for an aces total of 124-104.

Drax 'C' scored a comfortable 9-0 home win over Middlethorpe in mixed five.
