YORK and District Table Tennis League division one leaders Bootham Conservative Club 'A' flexed their muscles to whitewash Poppleton 'B' .

The 10-0 victory cemented top spot and they are 23 points clear of Holgate WMC 'A', who have a game in hand.

Richard Crowther and Paul Noutch graced York RI 'A' team's 9-1 win over University with three wins each, while Alfie Potter had a similar haul to help Groves WMC 'A' to a 5-5 draw with York RI 'B'.

Holgate WMC 'B' lead division two, but Nestl Rowntree 'A' maintained their challenge with a 10-0 win over Poppleton 'D'.

Led by Richard Ingleby, who won all three of his games, Bootham CC 'B' edged BT 'A' 6-4.

Northern Electric beat Groves WMC 'C' 9-1 with Phil Hall and Rod Lowery each winning three. Three wins from Jim Stevenson could not prevent BT 'B' going down 6-4 to Poppleton 'C'.

In division three, there was a first win of the season for Shepherds 'C', who defeated their 'B' team 6-4. Two wins each for Nigel Baker and Shazard Omar put them on their way, while John Graham and Jim Logan each won two for the 'B' team.

Brian Walton and Nathan Horsley each won three as York RI 'F' beat Holgate WMC 'D' 9-1. Shepherds 'A' had a good 9-1 win over Norwich Union 'A' with David Atkinson and Gary Neads both being unbeaten.

Groves WMC 'D' head division four after seeing off Shepherds 'D' 8-2. Keith Hood and Steve Potter each won three for Groves.

Poppleton 'F' stayed in second place after toppling York RI 'K' 7-3. Jonathon Soanes was unbeaten for Poppleton and Jean Carter won two for RI.

Luke Blackburn and Chris Megone each won three as York RI 'H' beat Norwich Union 'B' 7-3.

York Closed Table Tennis Championships will be held at York RI gym, Queen Street, over the weekend of January 29-30.
