York Indoor Bowls Club ladies gained sweet revenge against Darlington, who knocked them out at the same stage of the Yetton Trophy two years ago by beating them 100-54.

That clinched a place in the quarter-finals against Trophy holders Boston on February 17.

At home, Helen Walker's rink got off to a flier scoring a five on the first end. They led 12-0 four ends later, which set the tone for an easy 34-8 triumph. Linda Harrison's team always had the edge in their game and finished in style with a four, single and another four to clinch a 26-13 win.

At Darlington, Carol Instone's four had a fantastic start leading 14-0 after only six ends and were never threatened in their 26-14 victory. Melanie Brooke's team also had a good start. They led 7-1 after only four ends but then had to withstand a burst from the home side who won eight of the following ten ends to lead 16-9. The visitors won four of the next six ends but the game finished 19-14 as the home side conceded with one end to play.

New Earswick moved into the finals of the Yorkshire Double Rinks Championship after they beat Thornaby 42-36 despite losing the home game 25-19.

Paul Dawson's away rink never let the hosts have a look-in after winning six of the seven ends between the third and 11th to lead 11-4 en route to a 23-11 win. The finals are at Huntington Road on March 5.

York's Top Ten Tournament campaign opened vigorously as they beat Selby in all four disciplines and 97-14 on aggregate.

Iain Boyle won the singles 21-9, while Paul Mooring's side were never in danger as they took the fours 24-12.

At home, David Stroughair and Frank Turner coasted home in the pairs 33-3, though Gordon Smith, Kevin Davey and Phil Parsons needed a six on the last end to pinch the triples 19-18. York play Metrodome next on February 20.

York's Under-18s put themselves in the driving seat at the top of the Yorkshire U18 League first division after they beat second-placed Thornaby 25-24 picking up four vital points to Thornaby's two.

Adam Tattersall, Liam Henderson and Jamie Lee did the damage in the first half of their game as they led 10-1 after only six ends. The visitors pulled back to 11-8 but the home side won the last four ends to triumph 18-8.

The other rink of Phil Herridge, Adam Liddell and Zoe Eagles were well beaten 16-7 but most importantly they scored a two on the last end to ensure the match aggregate by one.

York's last game is away to third-placed Hornsea on February 27.

Scarborough's Carol McLean is in for a busy time at the EWIBA National Championships at Nottingham.

Not only is she in the U25s singles and champion of champions event, she won through to the pairs finals with Pam Miller after beating Cumbria's Linda Rose and Jackie Bewlay 21-3.

But it was misery for York's Ladies in the area play-offs. Carol Instone and Joan Jackson lost 25-8 in the pairs, Pat Napier, June Clayton and Madge Zimnoch perished 21-10 in the two-wood triples and Betty Richardson, Linda Harrison and Joan Jackson lost 20-14 in the triples.

'B' flattened

York 'B' hopes of staying in the Yorkshire Over-55s League division one vanished as they lost to fellow relegation candidates Selby 83-74. They picked up only two points, leaving them adrift at the bottom of the league.

New Earswick are also in danger of the drop after their 84-78 defeat against Featherstone. Bob Edwards' team won all but one of the last seven ends to win 24-16 and help pick up the points for the home aggregate.
