NATIONAL duty beckons for Queen Margaret's School lacrosse captain Elizabeth Hodgkinson.

The 18-year-old has been selected for the England Under-19 squad which will face the England World Cup team, England U21, and the British Universities squad in a tournament at Berkhamsted on March 5 and 6.

Hodgkinson, who has been at the Escrick-based school for seven years and was taught lacrosse there has been a regular in the North team.

She impressed so much for the North in the Territorial Tournament that she earned a slot in the England U19s trials at Wycombe Abbey last weekend.

Hodgkinson, who hails from Northallerton, is the first girl from Queen Margaret's to earn England honours since Rebecca Pyrah 13 years ago.

Queen Margaret's also enjoyed success at the Casterton School invitation netball tournament.

The Under-13 'A' team won all of their seven matches convincingly, piling up 84 goals and conceding just 18, to lift the trophy for the third time in fourth years.

In the round robin event, the QM 'B' team lost only two games - one to their 'A' team - to finish third.

All Saints School will fly the flag for York and North Yorkshire in the first regional round of the Coca Cola English schools football cup.

Their under-13s team beat neighbours Huntington School in the county final 2-1 in January to enter the next level of competition, where they have been drawn at home to Northumberland runners up St Cuthbert's School, from Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

A win will earn a place in the northern quarter finals to play either Handsworth Grange from South Yorkshire or Monkwearmouth, the Durham 'B' team.

Glory in the regional final will come with a passport to the national semi-finals with the grand final ultimately taking place at Aston Villa.
