YORK City Knights have recaptured fans' favourite Neil Law.

The Evening Press understands that another major signing could also be on the way to bring further cheer to the supporters - though his name has so far been kept under wraps.

Try-scoring centre Law has left Otley Rugby Union Club to re-sign for the Knights, and is likely to go straight into the squad for Sunday's first home game of the season, the Northern Rail Cup tie against Hunslet (kick off 3pm).

The Knights are set to confirm the signing of Law in the club's first newsletter of the season, which is given to fans free of charge. That comes out on Sunday.

The Sheffield-born 30-year-old, who has also played for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and Sheffield Eagles at rugby league and Northampton at rugby union, has been training with the Knights this week having been left out of the Otley team last Saturday.

He first played for the Knights in the 2003 season, scoring 11 tries in just 12 games before returning to his union commitments with National League Division One club Otley. This new move is a permanent switch back to the 13-a-side code, Law having signed for the season.

Knights majority shareholder John Guildford said: "We have been busy in talks with a couple of top players in a bid to strengthen the Knights squad. Should our talks be successful, we believe these players will prove popular with the fans and be a success for the club on the pitch.

"Further details will be revealed on Sunday, while we hope to bring more good news regarding another potential signing soon."

Austin Buchanan could be out for at least six weeks after having metal plates inserted into his wrist.

The 21-year-old winger injured his right forearm during Sunday's match at Castleford and could now be out for anything up to ten weeks after undergoing surgery yesterday.
