STUART Wilson stated that regular drivers passing the Buckles Inn on the A64 eastbound may well now be speeding up because there are no de-restriction signs in connection with the roadworks (Letters, March 3).

He says they have been moved about 500 metres further down the carriageway and the police are being sneaky and underhand by sitting at the Buckles with their speed cameras clicking away to catch speeding motorists.

The de-restriction signs have been moved further along the road to allow for the contraflow works at weekends when the traffic in both directions is on the one carriageway and when speed is reduced to 30mph.

However, during the week the speed limit is 40mph, as all the signs indicate, including the new ones in place near Buckles.

I use this road up to four times a day working for a bus company and can clearly see the signs have moved. But there are new 40mph signs advising you that you are still in a speed zone.

So my message to Mr Wilson is, the next time you go past Buckles be careful or the only clicking you may hear will be the traffic officer's pen as he writes you a ticket for driving without due care and attention.
