Alex Lloyd looks forward to the monthly outing of The Little Num Num Club.

QUANTITY and quality are both on offer when The Little Num Num Club makes its (mostly) monthly outing tomorrow night.

A packed line-up, featuring some of the brightest talents from the York music scene, can be found at the event, which is organised by Chris Helme, frontman of The Yards and former singer with The Seahorses.

In fact, the bill is so full Chris says: "We'll probably only get about 20 people in who are actually paying!" For those of you who aren't familiar with the night, The Little Num Num Club is an off-shoot of the bigger club which Chris periodically puts on at the Theatre Royal.

The formula is simple and laid-back. A DJ plays anything he wants, so long as it's good, and musicians get up and play throughout the night.

"It is just a chilled-out evening," says Chris.

Nevertheless, there's plenty planned, starting with the usual solo acts - this month sees a performance by Thom Mills and a rare acoustic set from Owen Richards of Colour Of Fire.

There's also a few local bands going unplugged - Cardboard Radio, Black Night Crash, The Stanleys, and one of Chris' side projects, Joseph Alan and the Montys.

DJ for the evening is Alan Leach, former Shed 7 drummer, who runs his own studio and has been involved in recording the forthcoming album from The Yards.

"To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what he plays, but I know he likes Stevie Wonder and hopefully there will be a bit of Northern Soul," says Chris.

If this is the first time you've heard about the club, it's not because Chris hasn't been publicising it.

He had stunning screen-printed posters made to attract attention but has encountered an unforeseen problem.

They were so good, people have been stealing them as fast as he can put them up.
