LAST year's Collier Plant Hire/Evening Press Player of the Year runner-up, Scott Rhodes, made an immediate impact on this year's standings in his first game of the season.

The fit-again stand-off was named the Knights' man of the match after coming off the bench and thus collects three player of the year points.

On loan Tom Buckenham made good yards and worked hard at prop during his time on the field and thus picks up two points for being deemed the Knights' second-best player, while Chris Ross made several decent breaks and defended well on the wing and so collects one point.

Latest standings: Smith 8, Paterson 3, Rhodes 3, Blaymire 3, Sullivan 3, Ross 3, Buckenham 2, Law 1, Liddell 1.

Remember, fans can have their say on the Player of the Year standings by voting for their player of the month at the end of each month.

Whoever tops the poll wins not only the Evening Press-sponsored Player of the Month award but also collects three additional player of the year points.

Votes are cast by email to peter.martini@ycp.co.uk or on a postcard to Sportsdesk, York Evening Press, 76-86 Walmgate, Y01 9YN. This system replaces last year's weekly man of the match vote.

Car in the community

YOU might have already seen it, a gleaming new car emblazoned with Knights logos driving around the district.

This car, a silver Peugeot 307, is the Knights' 'Car in the Community' and comes courtesy of sponsorship from MSF Motor Group York.

The car will be used predominantly by Jason Ramshaw, the club's development officer for his work in the community and in the schools across the region.

It's easy to spot, being badged with the Knights' livery. Every time you see it driving around, honk your horn or give it a wave.

Hawks-bound

THE Knights might not have seen the last of Elland forwards Andy and Mark Schickell no matter what the result tomorrow's Challenge Cup tie between the sides.

The brothers, who both had spells in Halifax's Academy team as teenagers and also attracted interest from Oldham last month, are to join up with York's National League Two and Northern Rail Cup rivals Hunslet Hawks after the encounter tomorrow.
