TWO York-based players have put themselves in the shop window for a full BARLA Great Britain call-up after impressing in the Tri-Series winning Yorkshire team, writes Claire Hughes.

Heworth second-rower Wayne Foster and Acorn flier Johnny Waldron both impressed on their first Tri-Series outings, while Acorn prop Adam Endersby was the 18th man in the third Yorkshire win in the last six years - all coached by Heworth chief Alfie Hill.

Waldron, who has already earned representative honours at BARLA Great Britain Under-21 level, ran in two tries during the series, which pitches Yorkshire against old rivals Lancashire and Cumbria.

Yorkshire team manager and Acorn secretary Spen Allison said: "We beat Lancashire 18-14 a month ago but the York lads didn't feature in that game. But because of injuries, they were fetched in and they both acquitted themselves well.

"They have put themselves in the reckoning for a full Great Britain cap because the Tri-Series games are seen as the step ladder to the national team by the selectors.

"It was the first time in quite a while there have been a good showing from York players and I was really proud of the way they did."

York Acorn physiotherapist Jonty Thompson was part of the backroom staff.
