As Victor Meldrew would say: "I don't believe it!"

On August 6 last year you published my letter about plans to re-open a railway station in Haxby. In it I listed the severe disadvantages of City of York Council's proposed site and the many advantages of an alternative location.

On August 30, Coun Hall responded, refuting all my arguments and insisting the preferred site was the ideal and only choice.

However, in the Lib Dem Focus issued this week in Haxby, their candidate for the Vale of York condemns the "preferred" site and supports the alternative site, using all my arguments.

I am relieved he has seen what is blindingly obvious when Coun Hall and council officers could not, but what has caused this dramatic about face?

Could it be that Laing Consultants has submitted its report and the Lib Dems are hurriedly "repositioning" themselves to be in line with their findings before they become public?

They wouldn't do that, would they?

F T Smith,

Ashwood Glade,

Haxby,

York.
