I READ in the Evening Press about Carol Romanus who wanted to park her car on her garden and felt I had to write to you.

In March last year I paid £782 to City of York Council to have the kerb dropped at the front of my house because I could never get parked on the road. Since then I have written to the council three times asking if I can have some kind of markings on the road to stop people parking over my driveway.

I have received two letters from the maintenance manager of highways and street operations telling me it is not their responsibility and I should call the police.

I have called the police several times when I haven't been able to get in or out of the drive. The last time two officers called to see me and told me to edge the car out of the garden and drive it off the kerb.

I still have to do this on occasions, so what was the point of my paying £782 to the council?
