TWO batsmen scored centuries in the division three game between Acomb and Castleford which saw Acomb fail by just ten runs to match Castleford's 244-6.

Castleford's former Acomb player Stephen Sacks celebrated his return to familiar territory by making 107. Conan Roos made 70 not out and Paul Hursthouse 42, while Glen Botterill's 3-52 was the best return by an Acomb bowler.

Neil Grant then made 129 and narrowly missed carrying his bat through the innings when he was dismissed with two balls to go. He had support from Paul Hemmingway (29) and John Renshaw (38) as Acomb replied with 234-6 in a game in which the fielding standards of both teams was below par.

Martin Sigsworth, who topped the premier division bowling averages in 2003, returned to Heworth's ranks after a lengthy absence from the game and gave a promising performance which saw him score 22 runs and take 3-34.

But his efforts failed to arrest the progress of a Folkton & Flixton side who maintained their pole position with a three wicket win.

Graham Hogben (51) and Richard Woodmansey (42) were the mainstays of Heworth's 178, as James took Brown 4-58 and Kev Thornton 3-52.

Despite Sigsworth's effort with the ball, Flixton made a winning 181-7.
