York maintained their seven point lead in the Yorkshire ECB County Premier League with a comfortable, if not entirely smooth, five-wicket win over Barnsley at Clifton Park.

Barnsley batted first and looked composed, if a little sedate, in reaching 25 off 14 tidy overs from Duncan Snell and Rob Flack.

Skipper Marcus Wood's surprise introduction at first change of occasional seamer Nick Kay sparked a transformation. His first ball was a no ball and a smart run out on the second run dismissed Matt Wilson.

This triggered Flack, aided by two smart slip catches from Simon Mason, to claim three victims in six deliveries.

Another scalp in the following over left Barnsley at the mercy of Dan Broadbent's off-spin and he duly delivered four victims before Mark Bell nipped in for a wicket to leave the visitors with a meagre total of only 78 runs.

York's reply had its wobbles against West Indian speedster Rayon Griffith, but Wood and Flack saw their team to victory in only 19 overs.

York's fourth round Cockspur National KO Cup tie fell victim to rain yesterday just as Doncaster started their reply to York's total of 200-7 off their allotted 45 overs.

The match will be replayed at Clifton Park.

Dan Broadbent and Tom Martram gave York a steady start of 57 off 17 overs. Teenager Bartram made a stylish 32 as Simon Mason applied the power pedal only to be adjudged caught behind down the leg side.

Nick Kay went quickly and the innings was pulled round by another accomplished innings from teenager Duncan Snell, who hit 47 runs off 51 ball.

He was supported in the final rush by Marcus Wood, Mike Mortimer and Ben Hough.

Shortly after the resumption, presistent rain set in, causing the match to be abandoned and leave the tantalising uncertainty of whether York's useful total was enough for victory.
