York-based jockey Robert Winston, who rode four winners yesterday - three at Newcastle in the afternoon and another at Hamilton last night - can hit the jackpot tomorrow.

He returns to Newcastle and teams-up with Far Pavilions in the Northumberland Plate, better known as the 'Pitmen's Derby', the richest two-mile handicap race in Europe, with £180,000 prize money.

Trained at Melsonby, near Richmond in North Yorkshire, by Alan Swinbank, whose horses are in scintillating form, Far Pavilions has won his last three races this season at Catterick, Nottingham and Musselburgh.

Although this is his toughest assignment, Swinbank rates him on a par with his stablestar Collier Hill, a Group-race winner.

The fast ground expected at Gosforth Park is crucial to the chances of Far Pavilions, who stays well and has a turn of foot. He certainly has a jockey in form to steer him.

Winston's haul yesterday was the second four-timer of his career, both achieved this month.

The £50,000 John Smith's 'Extra Cold' Chipchase Stakes, a Group 3 race over six furlongs, offers Tim Easterby's Fayr Jag the chance of a useful consolation prize after being eliminated from the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot at York last Saturday when he missed the cut by one in a Group 1 race which he had won 12 months ago.

Fayr Jag should get the fast ground he likes tomorrow and with Willie Supple, who knows him well, on board he should run a big race.

Richard Fahey can lift the £30,000 totescoop6 Northern Sprint Handicap with Wyatt Earp.

After three decent, but luckless efforts in defeat, Wyatt Earp won in pleasing style at Redcar last weekend. There could be more improvement to come from him and with Paul Hanagan taking the mount the Malton gelding is napped to come out on top.

At Newmarket, Arakan should not be overlooked in the £50,000 Haven And British Holidays Criterion Stakes.

This drop back to seven furlongs will be ideal for Sir Michael Stoute's colt (winner of this race 12 months ago), who was a creditable fifth over a mile in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury last month.
