LAST Sunday's Gala Day in aid of the Knights Scholarship Scheme was a big success by all accounts, with a few hundred people including some first-teamers attending.

The fte, which was organised by the Supporters Club, was held at Huntington Sports and Social Club and continued into the evening. It was sponsored by GMB Union while Nestl Rowntree contributed some prizes.

An eye-catching part of proceedings saw the Knights' Pop Stand Choir triumph in the Tug of War, and go on to beat a Knights select team featuring the likes of Darren Callag-han, Peter Fox, Lee Paterson, Chris Levy and Norris.

An insider said: "A rigorous weightlifting training regime was the key to victory, the weights primarily being glass-shaped objects which hold approximately one pint of heavy water."

A four-figure cash sum was raised and will go to the Knights Scholarship scheme.

A SPORTSMAN'S dinner will be held on Friday, July 15 for former York forward Steve Pryce, who is in his benefit year with Hunslet Hawks.

It will be held at the Banqueting Suite at Elland Road, Leeds. Tickets, costing £30, are available from Alan Stephenson, steward at the South Leeds Stadium's Phoenix Bar, on 07930 870133.

A FEW Knights met with Pudsey Bear this week at a fundraising bash in aid of Children in Need.

The event, which included a charity auction and raffle, was held at Frankie and Benny's restaurant at Clifton Moor, and was part of an ongoing campaign to raise money for the next Children in Need collection.

Knights stars (pictured above with Pudsey, from left to right) Chris Levy, Lee Paterson, Peter Fox and Jonny Liddell were all there to lend a hand.
