I WOULD like to make a comment on your article Steven primed to storm USA' (May 24) about roller-hockey net minder Steve Hudson being chosen to represent Great Britain.
I would firstly like to congratulate Steve on his success. This is a fantastic achievement for the York area.
Being a member of York Whitehawks roller hockey club, I know too well how difficult it can be for a York member to achieve success in roller hockey. York does not have the facilities that other competing teams have.
Hull, Rotherham and Sheffield have numerous roller facilities and ice rinks too, giving their kids an advantage over ours. Most have learned to skate from a young age.
Steve and many others Katie Hills (GB), Carl Seamark (GB) and numerous Superleague players from York have proved against all odds, although at a disadvantage, we still have talent and skill in our area. With hard work and determination, they have all still followed their dream.
I ask the city of York to support our kids and give them better facilities, not only for the existing players but other kids too!
Give them the opportunity to learn this sport. Not everyone has transport and is able to travel to other cities.
Well done Steve, you have done us proud and good luck in Detroit.
Adele Brolly, Whitehawks team manager, Danebury Drive, York.
