Magical McClaren:FOREST Park GC player Brian McClaren, the father of the next England football manager Steve McClaren, bagged a double when he won the best gross and stableford prizes in David Taylor's annual York Squash Rackets Club President's day.
Seven-handicapper McClaren had a gross 78 to pip Taylor and Bob Robinson by one shot, while his 36 points total was also one ahead of Taylor.
Fulford GC's Ann Robinson won the inaugural ladies competition for a trophy donated by former squash chairman Arthur Williams.
Deluge dismay
TORRENTIAL rain swamped the local programme forcing the postponement of several events. Allerthorpe Park Captain's Day has been re-arranged for Saturday, August 5, but a new date has to be set for Fulford GC's annual women v men match.
Roughley peaking
ALLERTHORPE Park's Millennium stableford competition was won by Malcolm Roughley, whose 39 points put him two ahead of John Eborall.
Division two and three honours went to James Cone and Michael McTigue respectively.
