YOU'VE heard of speed-dating - but have you heard of speed networking?

Local business people spent an evening networking to their hearts' content, and they raised vital funds for our Guardian Angels appeal at the same time.

The "business speed networking" evening was organised by York events company Top Occazzions as a way of raising money for our appeal and helping businesses sell their wares.

More than 20 business representatives spent an evening getting to talk about their company at the fundraising event.

Organised along the same lines as speed-dating, the event gave participants the opportunity to pair up and talk for a minute-and-a-half each about their company. At the end of three minutes they were then able to swap business cards.

The event was held at York's Holiday Inn, which gave its premises free of charge. It raised £260 for Guardian Angels.

Organiser Anne Ma'aye, of Top Occazzions, is holding another business speed networking event at the Holiday Inn on June 5 - and local companies are being urged to take part.

"It's always a good way to get your business name out and get contacts," said Anne.

Anne is also part of a team of businesses organising a charity ball for our Guardian Angels appeal - which will take place on December 1.
