A NINE-year-old boy, who was nearly led away by a man as he played in street, has given a statement to police.

Detectives are looking into the case of Scott Walker, who was spotted by neighbours walking off with an unknown man at 4pm on Tuesday.

Scott's mum, Allison Dodd, described her feeling of horror as she realised her young son had nearly disappeared with a stranger.

Neighbours alerted Allison after they saw Scott talking to a dark-haired man outside his home in Lindley Road, Clifton Moor, York.

The 34-year-old confronted the man, who is described as Asian or Turkish, but he said "me no understand" in bad English.

Scott, a pupil at Lakeside Primary School, told his mum the man asked to be shown to a nearby lake, because he was lost.

DC Carl Nelson, of York CID, said: "We are still reviewing the evidence based on an interview with the boy and are looking into the case."

The man is described as about 30 years old and was wearing dark trousers, a blue-grey jacket and carried a rucksack and a leaflet.
