Old buildings abound in Goodramgate, including the oldest row of houses in York - and possibly the country.
Lady Row dates from the 14th century and today houses a selection of tiny shops.
Goodramgate leads up from Petergate to the attractive Monk Bar. Its name was originally Gutherungate, the 12th century anglicised version of the Danish name of a Viking king.
Between the shops are various small alleyways, including Bedern leading to Bedern Hall; College Street, at the junction of Goodramgate and Deangate, leading to St William's College; Ogleforth and another turning, Aldwark, leading to the Merchant Taylor's Hall.
