The New Generation Singing Club was set up three years ago to encourage children to have an interest in, and experiment with, all types of music.
The club is run by the children and for the children, with adults there to faciltate and comply with legal requirements.
We cover all types of music, from heavy metal, jazz, pop, blues through to the shows and opera. and anything in between! We have a sound system, a Karaoke machine, the use of a piano, large and small drum kit, sychronised bells, plus a large selection of Karaoke CDs and sheet music.
I have recently applied for a grant to enable us to buy some percussion and string instruments to run a two-day Summer Workshop in August. In addition to this we are also currently in the throes of rehearsals for a show at the Guidhall on 15th October entitled CAPA-- 'Children Against Poverty in Africa' .
We are hoping that the Civic Party will be in attendance and the object is to raise money for the children of Niger. The club caters for children between the ages of 9---16 and meets every Sunday afternoon at Holgate Methodist Church Hall.2.00--4.00pm There is a charge of £2 a week to cover our room hire and running costs. However for their £2 the children receive voice coaching, refreshments, copies of music as necessary and relevant plus the opportunityto use the equipment etc.
At present we have eight vacancies, with a distinct shortage of boys ! I would also be pleased to hear from any volunteers whose knowledge or experience would benefit the children.
' The pay may be rubbish but the perks are unbelievable !!!'
