WITNESSES to a gang attack on a man in Selby are being asked to come forward.
The violent assault took place on Friday, March 19, but police have only just released details about the incident.
Officers said the victim was walking down Shipyard Road, between Ousegate and Canal Road, at 9pm, when he was attacked.
The victim, who is local, was punched and kicked by the group and suffered bruising to his face and head.
Police now want any witnesses to come forward and would particularly like to speak to the driver of a car who apparently stopped at the scene.
Sergeant John Suchomski, of Selby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This would appear to be an unprovoked attack on a victim who was approached by a group of people while walking home.
“Although this kind of incident is rare in Selby, we are keen to ensure that the offenders are identified and arrested as quickly as possible.
“We would like to trace any witnesses to the assault, in particular we need to trace the driver of a car who stopped at the scene and could well have witnessed the incident.”
Anyone with any information is asked to phone Sgt Suchomski on 0845 6060247.
Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555111.
