A BAR in the heart of York will relaunch next week after changing its name in a copyright dispute.
The owners of Pivo, in Patrick Pool, near Newgate Market, have told customers that from Friday, the business will trade as Pivní York.
A spokesman for the business said: “The name change is the result of a trademark dispute. We have chosen the word Pivní, the Czech adjective for beer, as – like Pivo before it – it reflects our huge passion for the combined arts of brewing, serving and drinking beer.”
The bar will close on Monday for a complete refurbishment of the ground floor in a style that “befits the business” and open its doors again on Friday.
The spokesman said: “We are also adding an extra cask ale to our offerings and to mark the occasion our friends at Thornbridge Brewery have brewed us a unique 3.9 per cent pale ale, and the beer, Pivní York, will be a fixture on the bar.”
