A STUDENT celebrated her 25th birthday by swimming 25km for Sports Relief.
Amy Pressland, who is studying for a PhD at the University of York, completed 1,002 lengths at the David Lloyd Gym in Hull Road. Amy, who completed the swim in just under eight-and-a-half hours, said: “It was the best day of my life.”
Despite being a swimming teacher and a regular participant in triathlons and marathons, Amy described the day as her “biggest challenge yet”.
She said: “I felt good all day until I reached the 23km, when I felt awful. Everyone said I had gone really pale.”
Amy has raised £800 so far, but is still collecting sponsorship money. She wishes to thank everyone who supported her and the David Lloyd Gym for being “really helpful”.
