A MAN accused of rape has been found not guilty after only a couple of hours of deliberation by a jury.
Ender Gulterkin, of Backhouse Street in The Groves, York, had been charged with raping a 33-year-old woman at his home on September 28.
York Crown Court heard that she escaped through a window.
But the jury believed Mr Gulterkin who told police they had had consensual sex and that the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had left by the door. He said he had met the woman in the days leading up to September 28.
He told the jury during his trial: “She said she needed money because it was her son’s birthday that weekend – she looked like she was about to cry and I just thought I would help.” Mr Gulterkin gave the woman £20 and more money the next day when she called at his home. Mr Gulterkin claimed he next saw the woman on September 27 when they went to his flat, where she claimed she was raped in the early hours of the following morning.
But the jury believed his version of events.
