A COUPLE are celebrating 60 years of wedded bliss today.
Raymond and Elsie Lamb, of Richmond Street, in Layerthorpe, York, met in 1948, in Doncaster, where they were both from originally.
They married two years later and in 1955 moved to York, initially living in lodgings before moving to a house in Bedford Street.
Mr Lamb, 85, found work almost straight away with Rowntree, working on the KitKat production line before transferring to the sawmill. He retired in 1986.
Mrs Lamb, 82, also worked there, as a cleaner.
The couple have five children – Kevin, Bryan, Elaine, Jane and Pauline – and will be celebrating their diamond wedding with a party at the Tang Hall Working Men’s Club on Saturday.
Mr Lamb said: “We look after each other. We were brought up to be good to each other.
“If we had arguments it was over in no time.”
