GOLDEN couple Jack and Joan Rylatt celebrated 50 years of marriage with a fundraising meal.
The York couple held a lunch party and invited family and friends. But instead of getting their nearest and dearest to buy presents, the pair encouraged their guests to donate to the Haiti earthquake appeal.
They raised more than £650.
Mrs Rylatt said: “At least we managed to do something which helped.
“Everything we have ever done has involved York and the York community.”
The couple, who are both 89, live in Elmlands Grove and first met while working with the Joseph Rowntree Players at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, in Haxby Road. They have three children, Matthew, Helen and Trevor, 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs Rylatt believes the couple’s successful marriage was down to a “sense of humour”.
