Biker hurt in crash on B1222 between Cawood and Kelfield

A BIKER is fighting for his life in hospital after he came off the road and crashed into a ditch near Cawood.

The 46-year-old man, who is from nearby Kelfield, was riding his Triumph Tiger motorbike along the B1222 between Cawood and Kelfield when he left the road and went into the ditch at about 10.50am yesterday.

The emergency services were called and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance scrambled, although it was the Great North Air Ambulance which took the job over when the first helicopter was diverted elsewhere.

The doctor with the Great North Air Ambulance treated the rider at the scene before he was airlifted to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield with what have been described as “very serious injuries” to his chest, legs and arms.

The Press understands he suffered two punctured lungs in the crash and possibly other internal injuries.

The road was shut while police examined the scene of the crash.

I hope the rider recovers and my thoughts are with him and his family. Perhaps this will provoke some thought in NYCC so they might consider spending money on dealing with the road surface rather than wasting it putting up "95 Alive" signs on a section of road that up till now had not had a bike crash on it in recent memory.

Someone came off his bike. We don't know why, so all one can say is to wish him a good recovery. Which I do.
