York Knavesmire Harriers put in a creditable performance in the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships at Wakefield.

The men’s team came home in 13th place with Tom Edwards being the first counter in 41st position. Barry Atkinson was 82nd, Kevin Langhan 92nd, Russ Parkinson 132nd, Patrick Langhan 155th, Rory Henderson 160th and Ian Bithell 186th.

The race was won by Mark Buckingham from Holmfirth and the team title went to Hallamshire.

In the ladies’ race – won by Victoria Wilkinson from Bingley – the team event also went to Hallamshire, who featured York-based Lizzie Adams who came home in sixth place.

Knavesmire’s Caroline Warrington came home in 52nd and Zoe Davis was 88th.

Knavesmire also had Nick Langhan in the Under-17 men’s race, where he was 24th as he continues his improvement with every outing.

In the Liversedge half-marathon, Knavesmire bagged several prizes.

Kevin Langhan was second in the men’s 45, John Oliver second (men’s 55) and Frank Holden third (men’s 65).

Sarah Nettelton was fourth overall in the ladies race and second in the 45 age group, while Jean Wright was first (65), Lynda Bish second (65) and Mavis Young third (65).

In preparation for the London Marathon, several Knavesmire runners competed in the Stamford 20k headed by Neil Knigham in two hours and 13 minutes, Simon Drew 2.18, David Darton 2.20, Colin Lea 2.25 and Duncan Chambers 2.29.
