A BAKERY in Haxby has started holding free baking classes for a group of home-educated children.
Baker Phil Clayton, who runs Food For Thought, at Ryedale Court in Haxby, with his wife Tina, teaches the children bread-making methods and skills to promote real bread over artificial processed loaves.
Mrs Clayton said: “We thought it would be a great way to inform and educate while having lots of fun.”
Seven children and five adults spent three-and-a-half hours experimenting with different ingredients in the first class and the bakery plans to hold other classes for customers in the future.
Mr Clayton said: “Everyone enjoyed it. One of the recipes I’ve kept on making. It’s gone on the specials board.”
The classes are free and the children can take their finished products home with them.
Mr Clayton said: “It’s a thank you to the people who shop with us.”
The class encourages the children to look at using different flours such as rye and wholemeal and promotes bread that uses 100 per cent natural ingredients.
