PROMOTION is still in sight for City of York Hockey Club Men’s I after a 6-2 victory at Chapeltown I in North League division one.

York occupy the second promotion slot behind runaway leaders University of Leeds I, two points ahead of Chester I and three ahead of Alderley Edge I.

On a slow, sticky pitch, York went a goal up early on through skipper Chris Wilson.

The lead was doubled midway through the first half as Wilson converted after good wing play by Alex Cockram.

Just before half-time, Chapeltown grabbed a goal back when their forward was given too much space in the ‘D’ to square for a colleague to tap in.

Early in the second half, Chapeltown stunned the visitors by drawing level from a well worked penalty corner after York had been temporarily reduced to ten men.

The equaliser sparked York into life and they quickly hit back to restore a two-goal cushion.

First Cockram slotted home from a penalty corner and he then set up Wilson’s hat-trick from close range.

In the closing stages, Rich Cockram converted when put through on goal and Michael Gamble intercepted a stray pass to add the sixth.

On Saturday, City of York host lowly Manchester looking to avenge a defeat earlier in the season.

City of York II had no fixture, while City of York III were in rampant form in a 4-0 win at Hull III in Yorkshire League division two.

The visitors took the lead with a flicked goal by Pat Herriott at a short corner and the same player quickly followed up with another.

Michael Sansoni took advantage of a dreadful goalkeeping error to score City’s third so that they were able to go in at half-time with a commanding lead. After the break, City only had a Phil Hamilton goal to show for their efforts.

City of York IV were 4-1 winners at home to Gainsborough Roses II in division three.

City took the lead when a move involving Graham Cook and Ben Foster ended with Andy Wilson tapping home. Before half-time, City doubled their lead when Rob Prentice scored with a fine shot following a well-rehearsed short corner routine. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Tim Lister deflected in a well-struck free hit. Although the Roses came back into the game with a late goal, two minutes from time Sam Butterfield scored a fourth for City.

City of York V were down and out at half-time of their division four game at Huddersfield III.

They trailed 3-0 at the interval, but dominated the second half and Oliver Bonney fired in a consolation goal after fine approach work by Will Sorby.

City of York VI were beaten 2-1 at home by Huddersfield IV, despite bossing the game for long periods.

York spurned a number of chances in the first 15 minutes, but there were no goals before half-time.

Huddersfield scored twice on the break and Chris Allerton pulled one back with five minutes to go, but York could not muster an equaliser.

City of York VII came from behind to beat Bradford University I 3-2 in division five.

They fell behind midway through the first half, but quickly levelled through James Wilson and took the lead with a goal from Josh Longster. In the second half, City played some excellent hockey and Elliott Colley was first-class in defence.

City scored a third goal with a short corner strike by James Taylor and conceded a goal late on.

Prolific scorer Nick Kay netted four goals as City of York VIII beat Bradford III 8-4 in division seven. City led 4-0 at the interval, with Kay and Neil Reader scoring twice. Kay added two more after the break, while Mark Moisley also scored twice.

City of York IX were 3-1 winners at home to Tadcaster II thanks to two goals from Tim Jolly and one from Andy Dent.

City of York X Badgers had no game.
