MATCH-WINNER Faye Garland ensured that City of York Hockey Club Ladies I closed the gap on Wakefield II in North League division one.
Garland struck the only goal of the game deep into the second half after a hard-fought match.
The side’s drew 1-1 earlier in the season and the reverse fixture was equally tight.
York had some good early chances, but were unable to find a way past the Wakefield goalkeeper.
Wakefield were dangerous on the break, but York’s defence worked tirelessly to keep them at bay.
Several quick reflex saves from Dawn Hopkins denied Wakefield and Garland finally broke the deadlock when she received the ball in the ‘D’, turned and slotted it under the ’keeper.
