THESE were the scenes when a derelict pub near Selby was hit by arsonists.

Two fire crews spent nearly two hours tackling the blaze at The Anchor, in Burn, after the alarm was raised shortly before 4pm. The bar area of the former pub was badly damaged in the fire, which Barry Martland, watch manager at Selby fire station, said was started deliberately.

Mr Martland said: “We would like to urge young people to think about what they are doing. If we are fighting a fire at a derelict building, it will mean we will be delayed getting to a building where there might be people inside.”
