THE REIGNING Miss England, Katrina Hodge, will put this year’s Miss York finalists through their paces at a different kind of beauty pageant this summer.

In a new twist for 2010, the Miss York final will include a sports day led by serving soldier Katrina.

The winner will then be crowned at a red carpet awards dinner at the Royal York Hotel on June 27 to honour Vivienne Lee, the former organiser of the Miss York contest, who died suddenly last December.

The event will also help to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in memory of former Miss York finalist Emma Young, who tragically lost her battle with the condition last year, aged 22.

Miss England organiser Angie Beasley, who is also arranging the Miss York event this year, said: “We want to ensure York has a representative in this year’s Miss England, but the event won’t be held as a staged show, it will be more of an awards ceremony in memory of Vivienne. We would love to hear from any local businesses who could be interested in attending the presentation and sponsoring prizes for the local winners and finalists.”
