Vale of York MP Anne McIntosh to repay £948 in expenses for gardening claims

VALE of York MP Anne McIntosh has finally broken her silence and revealed she was told to pay back nearly £1,000 of money she claimed for gardening expenses during a four year period.

Miss McIntosh, who claimed nearly £5,000 for gardening between 2004 and 2008, was investigated by Sir Thomas Legg as part of his audit of MPs’ expenses. He concluded she exceeded the maximum reasonable amount by £948 and recommended she paid back this money.

Miss McIntosh denied she did anything wrong, but said she would repay the money as a “goodwill gesture”.

She said: “In my case, all of the claims were well within the parameters that were allowed and were reasonable at the time.

“Nevertheless, the ACA Review of Sir Thomas Legg introduced a retrospective limit for gardening and cleaning. I am not appealing against the Legg decision, which I regard as fair.

“As a goodwill gesture and recognising that a line needs to be drawn under the previous and discredited expenses system, I shall request that the outstanding amount of £948 be deducted from future claims over the next three months.”

“It is now time for all parties to move forward under the new system, and to restore confidence in elected politicians at every level.

“I welcome the lead that David Cameron has provided and will continue to publish all of my claims online in real time in an open and transparent manner.”

It's just laughable really. There shouldn't be any allowance for "gardening" at all.
.
And what makes it worse is that she isn't even going to fork out for it, she's simply claiming against future funds.
.
I for one cannot wait to be rid of Anne McIntosh at the next election, and seeing as she's moving somewhere else that's a certainty.

Can I claim for gardening, potato peelers, duck houses, etc just because I have to go to London a lot ...No I cannot so why should they?
In fact I have to have a receipt for everything and if i buy drinks I have to prove they were for business purposes or they are not claimable so why on earth can they even consider its acceptible to cliam for these sorts of things
They argue they dont get paid enough but we could all argue that Its frankly patheti. They should consider exactly why they went into plitics and if it was to make a stunning living that was the wrong reason and get out

Why will anyone want to be elected to be an MP if you can't make money from it, and open doors to new highly paid employment? It's certainly not worth it otherwise due to the media scrutiny and abuse you get from the public. New Labour has proven there is no such thing as a genuine socialist so they are in it for power and wealth.

I suspect the loose change down the back of her second-home sofa should cover that nicely.
I can only assume that being an MP has been an absolute doddle for the last twenty years or so; certainly overpaid for what they pretend to do. All they actually have had to do is keep their noses clean, (and keep them well snorking into the trough), do what their party whips tell 'em, appear at odd local functions and feign concern for local issues, and let we the electorate feather their nests. . No wonder she is smiling...
...and my security words are:
back-duty.
How appropriate.
