The Hairy Bikers, Simon King and Dave Myers, cook up a storm during a book-signing at Waterstones, in York

SCORES of fans of TV chefs The Hairy Bikers descended on a York bookshop and queued round the block to get their latest cookbook.

So popular was the event at Waterstone’s city centre store yesterday that 15 minutes before the signing was due to start, they ran out of books and people went to other shops to buy a copy to get signed.

The book, Mums Know Best, features the search by the duo, Simon King and David Myers, for Britain’s lost and most secret hand-me-down recipes. Dean Audsley, of Waterstone’s, said: “The lads were fantastic and stayed longer than they were meant to in order to sign all our customers’ books.”

The pair will return to York for the Hairy Bikers' Big Night Out at the Grand Opera House on March 5 at 7.30pm. Box office: 0844 847322.

Has anyone seen the TV show? It is dire! A prime example of what can we do next in the cooking format. But good luck to the lads as they seem nice enough and well done for making a mint out of the license payers. Wish I was 100lb heavier with a dodgy accent.
