As a Canadian spending my first winter in York, I loved seeing Tuesday’s snowfall and the winter wonderland it created.
While no stranger to driving in snow, I quickly realised that neither the city nor my vehicle (rear-wheel drive, without snow tyres) is fit to deal with these conditions.
When my car hit ice on the uphill climb of Crichton Avenue just after 9am I was unable to move. Two wonderful women – complete strangers – came to my rescue and started to push. The first was a pedestrian and the second was the driver behind me. My car gained momentum, and I dared not stop before clearing the hill, so regretfully I did not have a chance to say thank you properly.
A big thank-you to these women. You represent all that we have come to love about York – a beautiful city, with friendly and helpful citizens. I hope your kindness will return to you.
Terri Barber, Acomb, York.
