FOUR-year-old cancer sufferer Jamie Inglis has received his last high-dose bout of chemotherapy and has entered the 90-day race against time to raise cash for the treatment which will hopefully save his life.

Jamie, of Elvington near York, is currently in isolation in hospital in Germany with his father, John, who is stationed in the country with the Royal Medical Corps.

As reported in The Press, Jamie’s family are in a race against time to raise £250,000 for pioneering treatment in America for the brave youngster, who is suffering from neuroblastoma. They have so far raised about £90,000.

The last dose of chemo basically killed off his immune system along with virtually all of the cancer.

Stem cells were administered on Wednesday to repair his immune system but eventually the cancer will return.

That is why Jamie needs the new treatment available in the USA. However, it has to be administered within 90 days of Jamie receiving the stem cells.

John said: “Jamie is doing all right.

“ They had to give him a lot of hydration and a few days ago he swelled up like a balloon but they have been able to give him a diuretic and he is looking better.

“In a week’s time he will probably be at his worst as the chemo normally has side-effects like stomach upsets and ulcers, but in himself he is still quite good.

“He has lost his appetite but is in good spirits.

“He is watching Power Rangers DVDs – his face has just lit up now at the mention of them.

“That’s his focus. He loves Power Rangers and has little Power Ranger battles with me.”

To that end, John also asked for someone to donate a Rhino Ranger to make Jamie’s day.

He said he had found it impossible to get one from any shop and it was Jamie’s favourite character. Anyone who has a Rhino Ranger to donate can send it to Richard Harris at The Press and he will pass it on to the family.
