A 16-YEAR-OLD boy was killed and his mother seriously injured after they were involved in a car crash then hit by a lorry in North Yorkshire.
The teenager was travelling in a blue Peugeot 307 car with his 46-year-old mother when they crashed into the central reservation on the A1 near Richmond at around 10pm on Wednesday.
The two, reported to be from North Shields, were thought to be making their way to the hard shoulder when they were struck by an HGV.
Meanwhile, police attended 29 crashes and 22 reports of highway disruption in North Yorkshire yesterday.
A silver Skoda Octavia smashed through a fence on the A64 just east of the Hopgrove roundabout, near York, at about 5pm yesterday. Its driver was comfortable in hospital.
