St John Ambulance Cadet Chris Whitwood has been given a national voice on the British Youth Council.
Chris, 18, of Riccall, near Selby, is a pupil at All Saints’ RC School, York.
He is one of only five St John Ambulance members nationally to be elected to the council – a sounding-board for youth groups throughout Britain.
Chris was elected at the recent St John Ambulance National Youth Assembly.
He said: “It’s an honour, as the British Youth Council empowers young people to have a say and be heard. It has networks right across the UK.
“I want to focus on the abolition of tuition fees because I think they’re a deterrent to many entering higher education.
“I also support a campaign which is about changing the commonly held negative perception of young people.”
