WHAT a strange use of the adjective “lucky” applied to Workington by Clive Tiney writing about the new railway station there (Readers’ Letters, December 3).
My brother has to make a one-hour detour to buy basic food essentials instead of the normal few minutes’ journey and this is likely to continue for some time.
Residents without transport experience much anxiety and stress trying to cope. The new station, which I believe is temporary, was vital in restoring links with the town centre.
Given the uncertainly over climate change, perhaps Haxby in the future may experience similar extreme weather conditions to Workington; and as Mr Tiney makes his way through the floods, let’s hope that Haxby too will be “lucky” and its station restored.
