Heworth ARLC Under-18s sealed an emphatic 36-4 victory at Harehills Pigeons to go top of Yorkshire Youth League division two. Winger Tom Hirst was first to go over, his try being goaled by Luke Campbell, who, after kicking a penalty, outpaced the defence to score a converted try of his own.

After the break, two converted tries by Ben Stoker and Joe Hudson sandwiched Harehills’ only points of the match.

Campbell then scored his second try of the game and Dan Perkins looked certain to score before being tripped by a Harehills player, who was sin-binned – Perkins later getting on the scoresheet anyway with a converted touchdown. Sam Colley was the man of the match.

York Acorn U18s bounced back from a lacklustre performance with a 28-8 victory over a decent Elland team.

Acorn’s dominance was clear from the off as, after a slick return pass, James Mountford received the ball to score. Anthony Chilton converted.

Elland responded with an unconverted try but Mountford soon scored again for Chilton to goal.

The ball then broke to Kyle Brown who scored after a defensive masterclass from Acorn’s man of the match, Jordan Hyde. Chilton’s conversions meant Acorn were 18-4 up at half-time.

Carl Loft’s converted try heaped more woe on Elland before the visitors struck back with a try, only for James Leaf to have the last word.

New Earswick U14s put in one of their best performances of the season to beat East Leeds 70-0.

After a poor game at Oulton last week, the All Blacks dominated through a determined defensive line which pinned East Leeds in their half.

Some superb attacking play from Earswick saw them run in 12 unanswered tries, 11 of which were converted.

Louis Phillips led the way with four tries, and others to cross were Tom Gurden (2), Calum Graham (2), Jack Ireland, Jake Beaumont, man-of-the-match Kieran Parker and Lewis Deighton.

Dec Calam (6) and Nathan Veall (5) added goals.

Slow-starting Heworth U14s paid for a sluggish first half and lost 52-22 to Wetherby.

The away side scored six tries before the break compared to Heworth’s solitary Jack Rowson try.

The second half saw a much-improved performance from Heworth. Nathan Ham-merton goaled a Dave Larkin try and captain Richard Ashton, Danny Simpson and Rowson added further scores, with Wetherby bagging three at the other end.

Lewis Hartley was Heworth’s man of the match and Hammerton the coaches’ player of the week.

New Earswick U10s gave an impressive defensive display to win 22-4 at Hunslet.

There were tries for Ewen Coverdale, Matthew Williams, Adam Winter-Rhodes and Harvey Baynes, with conversions for Williams and Josh Ireland. The whole team received the man-of-the-match such was their all-round performance.

Tyler Ashfield and Iain Oakley scored four tries apiece as New Earswick U9s beat Churwell Chiefs 11 tries to five. Men-of-the-match Finlay Osborne (2) and George Starkey also crossed.

New Earswick U8s’ Kian Oliver, the opposition’s choice of man of the match, scored two tries and Joshusa Kelly, the coach’s man of the match, bagged one against a strong Dewsbury Moor side. Ellie Powell received the ‘magic moment’ award for her admirable defending. Bradley Tee and Ryan Craft shared the ‘rising star’ accolade.
