YORK City juniors enjoyed a fifth consecutive league win despite playing half-an-hour with ten men at Doncaster Rovers.

The Minstermites prevailed 3-2 in South Yorkshire after a nervy ending following striker Dom Brown’s 60th-minute sending off for an altercation with a Doncaster defender.

Goals by Tom Richardson, Dan Owers and Dean Lisles had given City a 3-1 lead at that stage and Steve Torpey’s teenagers held on for victory after the home side scored a second goal with eight minutes left to play.

Playing a second game in three days after their FA Youth Cup defeat of Chester-le-Street, Torpey made three changes.

Under-16 keeper Ben White stepped up to make his first start and showed good handling and kicking with Owers and Kal Alali also drafted in.

The visitors forged ahead when midfielder Richardson claimed his first goal of the season, unleashing an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box.

City doubled their advantage soon afterwards when great hold-up play by Brown, followed by a neat turn, teed up Owers for his fourth goal of the season.

Rovers pulled back a goal against the run of play, but defender Lisles added a third just before the break – confidently volleying home Jamie Hopcutt’s corner.

Brown’s dismissal then saw City come under pressure but Lisles and fellow centre-back Ryan Qualter excelled and, when the hosts did manage a second goal, it merely served as a consolation.
