I was not surprised to learn that First are disregarding pensioners with medical appointments in the morning (Pensioner bus snub is denied, The Press, October 12). My recent experience has convinced me that they are hell-bent on picking up as few passengers as possible.

I was running for a bus that was approaching a stop, safe in the knowledge that it would stop, because there was a man at the stop with his hand out to let it know that he wanted it to.

It sailed straight past.

I continued on my way to the next stop – York Dungeon. Joy! I had caught the bus up, I could sit down and let my heavy bag fall to the floor.

I crossed the road, I walked down the length of the bus, the doors closed. The driver would not let me on. For the second time in five minutes I was snubbed by the same driver in the same bus.

First should publicise this policy of not picking up passengers so we know where we stand, and stop wasting our time standing at bus stops in the vain hope that a bus might stop.
