SERIAL bigamist Emily Jane Horne is to tell her story in a Channel 4 documentary next week.

Former glamour model Horne, previously of Coggan Close, in South Bank, York, will appear in Cutting Edge’s The Bigamist Bride: My Five Husbands, which will be shown on Thursday.

As well as interviews with the 30-year-old, who had five husbands simultaneously, the programme includes contributions from three of the grooms, her father and her current boyfriend. Horne, who was given a ten-month suspended sentence for bigamy in July, met her first husband, Paul Rigby, at Millthorpe School, in York.

On December 20, 1996, the day after Horne’s 18th birthday, they married at York Register Office. Horne said she had decided to appear in the documentary because she wanted to set the record straight.

Speaking on the programme, she says: “The truth is nowhere near as bad as the tabloids have made out. In some aspects maybe to a certain extent it’s even worse, but I want to set the truth and the record straight.”

Her father, Graham Horne, speaks to Cutting Edge about his daughter’s past behaviour.

He said: “She won’t mean you any harm.

“I think it’s almost like she’s not happy with the life she’s had, so she’s trying to invent one that makes her feel like somebody special.”

Before sentencing Horne in July at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court, Judge Mushtaq Khokhar said she had “undermined the institution of marriage”.

But he had decided not to jail her because he said she had made progress in the previous six months, since being prescribed medication for a personality disorder.

She said afterwards she would get a divorce before she married again.

Speaking on the programme, Horne’s current boyfriend, Wayne Harper, says: “We do have a good time.

“I don’t judge her, whereas a lot of people do.

“They judge her by the things that she’s done.

“Everybody’s done things that they regret and I can just look past that.”

Representing Horne during the court appearance, Paul Hodgkinson said: “Her decision-making was affected by her mental health.

“She is sorry for what she has done and she is sorry for the pain she has caused to the men and their families.”

• The Bigamist Bride: My Five Husbands’ will be on at 9pm.
