RESIDENTS and businesses are invited to have their say on plans to build a new congestion-busting Park&Ride site in York.

Transport chiefs at City of York Council want to build a new 500-space site at Wigginton Road as part of their multi-million pound Access York programme.

The proposals are part of a citywide initiative to increase access into York, reduce congestion and improve air quality in the city.

Residents and potential users of the site are invited to an exhibition at the car park adjacent to Tesco supermarket in Clifton Moor over the coming week.

Coun Steve Galloway, the council’s executive member for city strategy, said: “It is important that potential users of the new Wigginton Road Park&Ride bus service make their views known over the next few weeks.

“Initial consultation on the location of the new car park attracted a substantial majority in favour of the selected site and the council now needs to know residents’ views on the layout of the car park, access arrangements and bus routings.

“It is likely that the bus service will provide a link into the Clifton Moor area, improving accessibility to and from that important commercial district. In addition, there will be links to the hospital.

“So it won’t only be commuters who will want to make their requirements and preferences known at this important stage in the planning process.”

The exhibition will run from Monday to Thursday and will be open from 10am to 5.30pm on Monday, 9am to 5.30pm on Tuesday, 9am to 7.30pm on Wednesday and 9am to 4pm on Thursday.

Representatives from the council, transport consultants Halcrow and project partners will be on hand to answer questions and explain the proposals in more detail.
