THE first Yorkshire PGA Masters to be held at Sandburn Hall Golf Club resulted in the course record being broken by Woodsome Hall professional Chris Hanson.

An eight-under par morning round of 64 saw Hanson play the best-ever 18 holes at the Flaxton venue.

He then followed up with a 65 in the afternoon to finish three shots clear of the field on 129.

Selby’s Nick Ludwell was the nearest local challenger in fourth place after shooting a 70 and 66.

Andy Turner (Knaresborough), Fraser Kelley (Malton and Norton), Daniel Hood (York) and James Drinkall, pictured right, (Allerthorpe Park) also enjoyed top-20 finishes with respective scores of 142, 143, 144 and 145. The competition will now be held at the same venue for another three years and, from 2010, will change its name to the Sandburn Hall Masters.

Yorkshire PGA secretary and tournament director Jimmy Pape said: “It was the first time we have been to Sandburn, but the facilities, the weather and everything about it was fantastic.”

Sandburn Hall Golf Club manager Emma Brown added: “The club was very well received and everybody was complimentary about the course. It was a good opportunity for us to showcase our facilities.”
